Our Story

The Association of Retired Medical Staff (ARMS) was established in 1990 to facilitate the transition from active practice to retirement, foster continued collegial relationships amongst retirees, and maintain a connection between retirees and Washington Permanente Medical Group and Kaiser.

Our main emphasis is sharing the retirement experience and continuing the friendships formed throughout medical careers.

We have nearly 400 members, made up of members of the medical group and of the medical groups administrative staff.

ARMS sponsors three luncheons a year for in person and virtual socializing, maintains a website to provide interest to members, and sends regular newsletters. We plan to offer a secure social media site for sharing information, stories and updates. ARMS can also arrange for mentorships, opportunities and social events.

The ARMS Coordinating Committee is led by the ARMS coordinating committee (ACC), lwhose members are chair Hugh Straley, Paul Fletcher, Chris Fordyce, Tim Gilmore, John Howe, Suzanne Spencer, Steve Tarnoff, Sara Thompson, Al Trescott, Mike Wanderer Ruth Krauss, Annie Iyrie Emeritus.

Ideas and participation are welcome.
